 Pack­ing The pack­ing shall be such that it pro­tects the prod­uct from con­tam­i­na­tion, de­te­ri­o­ra­tion and ab­sorp­tion of mois­ture. Also, it should not im­part any ob­jec­tion­able taste and odour. Poly­meric pack­ages used should be of food-grade qual­ity and should con­form to the rel­e­vant na­tional stan­dards.

• All brands have been given equal scores on pack­ing qual­ity.

• Ken­driya Bhan­dar had a poly-wo­ven pack. The rest all had flex­i­ble poly­mer pack­ag­ing.

Mark­ing

The sam­ples were ver­i­fied against the mark­ing re­quire­ments as per the rel­e­vant In­dian Stan­dard. The pack shall be leg­i­bly and clearly marked with the fol­low­ing par­tic­u­lars: a) Name and trade name b) Grade of the ma­te­rial c) Man­u­fac­turer’s ad­dress d) Batch/Lot num­ber/code num­ber e) Date, month and year of man­u­fac­tur­ing f) ‘Best be­fore’ date g) Net weight h) Trade­mark, if any i) Stan­dard mark, if any j) Green dot (for veg­e­tar­ian sta­tus) k) MRP l) FSSAI li­cense num­ber m) Cus­tomer-care de­tails

• All brands pro­vided the re­quired in­for­ma­tion. It may be noted that stor­age in­for­ma­tion was miss­ing in Ahaar and Kanak. Net Weight

Sam­ples from all brands were ver­i­fied for net weight as per the quan­tity claimed. The net weight should be within the tol­er­ance limit per­mit­ted in Le­gal Metrol­ogy Rules.

• Ex­cept in the case of Ken­driya Bhan­dar, the net weight of all brands was found to be above the de­clared quan­tity. The dif­fer­ence in net weight in Ken­driya Bhan­dar’s atta was within the tol­er­ance limit.
