state part­ners sup­ported by Con­sumer Voice or­gan­ised var­i­ous work­shops at Luc­know (Ut­tar Pradesh), Bhopal (Mad­hya Pradesh), Chandi­garh (Haryana), Shimla (Hi­machal Pradesh), Ra­jkot (Gu­jarat) and Guwa­hati (As­sam). The main ob­jec­tive was to spread aware­ness about the ill ef­fects of to­bacco and how the govern­ment and the pub­lic have to play their roles in the present sce­nario. Con­sumer ac­tivists, so­cial ac­tivists, med­i­cal prac­ti­tion­ers, civil so­ci­ety or­gan­i­sa­tions, and ac­tivists work­ing in the field of to­bacco con­trol were among those who par­tic­i­pated in the work­shops. They ex­pressed their views and urged the govern­ment to make strin­gent laws and en­sure ef­fec­tive im­ple­men­ta­tion of ex­ist­ing and new laws. They also de­manded that to­bacco prod­ucts be put in the high­est cat­e­gory of tax­a­tion.
