THE TECHNIQUE

Exfoliate damp lips with a toothbrush (regular or electric) for 30 seconds in a circular motion. This sloughs dead cells and stimulates circulation, so lips appear fuller.

Pat lips dry, and smooth on balm, then petroleum jelly. The double layer locks in moisture and plumpness. Leave it on like a mask for 10 minutes.

Blot your mouth with a tissue until lips feel hydrated, but no longer slick. Lip stains (the next step) stick best to a smooth, dry (unwet, not dehydrated) surface.

Outline your mouth with the tip of a lip-stain pen (they offer tonnes of pigment but won’t kiss off... great for date night). The closer you stay to the edge, the bigger lips will look.

Now tilt the pen, and fill the area inside the lip border with its chubbier side using long, even strokes. Once colour has dried, seal it with a hydrating balm.
