5 Aashti Wins Our Vote of Confidence

Cosmopolitan (India) - - LIFESTYLIST -

First-time author and daughter of designer Kavita Bhartia, Aashti Bhartia is young, energetic and refreshingly opinionated. Here, she talks to Cosmo about politics, her book Vote of Confidence, and how she came to write it.

Cosmo: What is your book about? Aashti Bhartia: “The book profiles India’s young politicians, the wellknown ones, as well as the relatively unknown. It reveals their stories, and through them, the churning in Indian politics.”

C: Why did you choose to write about this? AB: “I was curious to figure out what’s going on in young India. We know so little of what’s happening, so when we read snippets, we can’t connect with it. We become either cynical or completely indifferent to politics— without understanding the complete picture! This book was an attempt to change that, at least for myself.”

C: This is your first book. How did it happen? AB: “It happened somewhat by accident. My publisher read something I’d written online and asked me to write a book.”

C: Who are some of your favourite authors? AB: “Somerset Maugham, Ian McEwan and James Baldwin are simply superlative.”
