2 cups red wine

1/2 cup water 1//2 cupp orange juice

2/3 cup sugar 1 cinnnamon stick

1 star anise 1 tsp vaanilla extract

4 pears

Pour wine, water, and juice in a saucepan. Add sugar, cinnamon stick, star anise, and vanilla extract.

Mix well and bring to a boil while stirring. Reduce the heat slightly and simmer for about 10 minutes.

Meanwhile, peel the pears. Or halve them, removing the pit. Leaving pears whole makes for a better presentation, but halving it is more practical.

Place the pears in a pan, and cover with the sauce. Let them cook 10-12 minutes on low heat.

Carefully remove pears. Serve with cake, whipped cream, icecream...or as is, with a drizzle of the syrup.

The poached pear looks as good as it tastes
