DIOR Goes Back to the Roots!
Designer Raf Simons’ debut Couture Fall Collection for Dior was a leaf out of the classic Dior of the ’50s
here’s major buzz about the House of Dior right now— for his debut Couture Fall 2012 Collection, Raf Simons, Dior’s new Creative Director, traced the brand’s iconic lineage of the 1950s! Balancing his characteristic minimalism and Dior’s iconic whimsy, the show took away from the patent Galliano romanticism. Simons took inspiration from Mr Dior’s distinct architecture of clothes, as well as his fascination with flowers. So, the rooms were covered with wallpapers of flowers, while the collection focussed on structure and detail that are traditionally Dior. The classic hourglass silhouette made appearances through peplum tops and full-skirted ball gowns, streamlined for today with trim bodices, rounded hips and cinched waists. Rachel Weisz and Marion Cotillard were among the first to wear his pieces, and we have only two words for them— lucky girls!
