WHAT WE'RE COMMITTING TO

Cosmopolitan (India) - - SPECIAL -

At the Cosmo office, we were shocked to learn that a whopping 35.4% of women in India face sexual and physical violence at some point in their lives (according to the Violence Against Women Prevalence Survey by the UN).

Besides sexual assault, women in India have to deal with sexual harrassment on a daily basis. Whistling, cat-calling, lewd remarks, and groping are (sadly) a part of every woman's life. Even worse, because such incidents are so common, we have begun to accept them as 'normal'.

Cosmopolitan India is committed to raising awareness about sexual harrassment. We pledge not to keep quiet. As part of Cosmo Fights Sex Crimes Campaign, we will speak openly about sexual violence, educate women about their rights, and teach them how to defend themselves, through expert-back articles and tutorials. If you have any information or suggestions that can help make our cities safer, let us know—we'll spread the word! SO NOW THAT YOU KNOW WHAT @COSMOCOMMITS IS COMMITTING TO, we want to hear your thoughts about where you want to see change. Send us an e-mail at cosmo@intoday. com; write on our Facebook wall: facebook/cosmoindia; and send us your tweets @CosmoIndia using #CosmoCommits.
