Whyy are the but­tons on dif­fer­ent sides in guys’ and girls’ shirts?

Way back in the 1700s, rich women had cham­ber maids to help them get dressed, but men didn’t. But­tons were sewn on the side of the garment that worked for a right-handed per­son do­ing

them up. There­fore the self-but­ton­ing man had his but­tons sewn

along the right side.
