Hound­stooth was in­spired by the un­even shape of a hound dog’s

teeth.

Pais­ley is orig­i­nally from Iran—though it’s named af­ter the Scot­tish town of

Pais­ley.

Ging­ham meant ‘stripped’. But in the mid- 1900s, Bri­tish mills started to

weave dyed cot­ton into the checked pat­tern, and it quickly over­took the

stripe.
