ON A DATING WEBSITE: Think online dating is for the desperate/ weird? Read this: over one-third of UK and US marriages begin online, found a new study. In India, too, many are finding that Internet dating may be the today way to find Mr Right, and websites like shaadi.com and jeevansathi.com are popular faves. Anamika Mishra, 27, is a Delhi-based graphic designer who met Akshat Kapoor on a matrimonial site. “I had to get past this notion that ‘online love’ is for un-cool people. I also realised that so-called matrimonial sites are not just vehicles for arranged marriages. In fact, most accounts are set up by guys themselves. Akshat and I dated for a year before getting engaged last month.” Okay, now for the warnings: watch out for fake profiles, usually typified by tall claims. And begin with phone calls before you meet. When that does happen, meet in a public place for the first date.
