THE STAR SPEAKS

Lakmé brand ambassador Kareena Kapoor reveals her style and beauty secrets to Harper’s Bazaar Editor Nishat Fatima

Cosmopolitan (India) - - LAST WORD -

Heels or flats? “A woman can’t do without both. But... I think it would be heels.”

Stilettos or platforms? “Stilettos, because I have big calves.”

Dresses or trousers? “Dresses, without a doubt. Not figure-hugging ones, but more flowy, Grecian in style.” Hero items of your wardrobe? “Track pants, jeans, sneakers, and my pink T-shirts from Victoria’s Secret. People buy lingerie from there, but I buy yoga pants, and boyfriend track pants to wear on flights.”

Your style influences? “Kate Moss, she’s a rockstar. It’s not just her style, I also like the way she lives her life,

how all her decisions come from the heart. I also think my sister [actor Karisma Kapoor] is very stylish and chic.”

Accessorised or minimal? “Minimal. I am not a big accessories person. The only thing I always wear is my wedding ring.” Jewellery—costume or precious?

“Diamonds!”

Saris or gowns? “Saris. There is just no comparison. I’m an Indian woman, I’m quite curvaceous, and saris are supremely flattering. I like very sexy slinky chiffon saris. Gowns are for people like Kate Moss.” Rajesh Pratap Singh and Kareena Kapoor Khan? “It’s great! Thanks to Lakmé I get to meet some crazy designers, people who are edgy, people who are new age, and whose thought processes are futuristic. Like Rajesh. His finale is wild and my outfit is very chic. And it’s like a home-coming for me to walk for the Lakmé Fashion Week finale.”

Showstopper or item number? “I’ve been lucky to do both. The fact is I’m an actor first. That can never change.”

Favourite designers? “Rajesh Pratap Singh is absolutely brilliant. I’ve never seen a designer who cuts a woman’s shirts the way he does. I also love Ashish Soni, he makes amazing suits for both Saif and me. Sabyasachi is great, Manish Malhotra, of course, and Aki Narula, too.”

Fashion inheritance? “For my wedding I wore my mother’s earrings. They are vintage with uncut diamonds, which she had bought from rom her hard-earned money when n she got married. So, obviously y now they are mine and I’m not giving them back.”

Morning beauty routine? “Wake up, brush my teeth and eat a fruit.” No cleanse, tone, moisturise? e? (Dies of shock) “I only moisturise if I have to apply ply makeup. I just drink lots of water er and it helps that I’m a vegetarian n so I have good skin. But I also have to thank my genes—my parents have very good skin.”

Eyes or lips? “I love doing up my eyes. For an n event I might wear red lipstick, but in my personal life, it’s just kajal and I’m out.” Must have products? “Lakmé Absolute Kohl Ultimate—I —I swear by it. My new favourites include the Lakmé Eyeconic White and Lakmé Absolute Creme me Lipstick in Red Carpet.” Your five minutes to fabulous tip would be... “Well fitted blue jeans, crisp white shirt, and kajal in the eyes. And if you are up for it, a pop of red on the lips.”
