Every year, Pantone chooses The One—the colour that will govern trends and set the style circuit ablaze. This year, that colour is Marsala—a brown-y red, like an earthy wine. “The impactful, full-bodied qualities of Marsala make for an elegant, grounded statement colour,” said Leatrice Eiseman, Director of the Pantone Color Institute. Within minutes of the announcement, the net-verse was buzzing with mixed reactions. New York Mag called the shade “icky”, and The Atlantic compared it to “dried, freaky blood.” On the other side, though, Marsalainspired wedding ideas began trending by the dozen, the IKEA Share Space endorsed that it ‘works well with a variety of colours,’ and Pinterest was aflush with warm-red mood boards (including the Marsala Collection by Saatchi Art that has garnered many a pin). And when we went celeb trend-spotting, we found that Kim K, Taylor Swift, Blake Lively and many others had already gone the muted-scarlet way. So, are you ready to Marsala-fy your own wardrobe? Look below for some pieces to get you started...
