IBM India axes 40 STG staffers

CRN - - SHADOW RAM -

IBM India has reportedly laid off 40 people from its Systems Technology Group (STG). This action follows the company’s decision to sell off its volume server business to Lenovo a few weeks ago.

Many partners, CRN spoke to, opined that in the coming months more employees from STG could lose or quit their jobs. “Lenovo is a company that operates with tighter teams and hence it will not absorb all the employees of IBM’s volume server business. My best guess is that they will take 50-70 people from the existing team,” said a leading IBM partner, based in Mumbai.

According to another IBM partner based in Bengaluru, “Due to the prevailing uncertainty about who Lenovo will hire many good STG employees are looking out. IBM and Lenovo should ensure that these people don’t leave because it will negatively impact their overall business.”
