IBM partners, happy with STG job cuts

Most IBM partners are happy with the recent job cuts in the Systems Technology Group (STG). Following its sell-off of x86 server business to Lenovo, IBM has embarked on major restructuring, and in the process laid off hundreds of employees from STG globally. In India, at least 40 STG staffers have been laid off.

Now with a thinner staff, partners say the interference of IBM will be lesser in partner accounts. Partners have long complained about excessive interference by channel and account managers in partner-led named accounts.

“The IBM teams used to interfere in medium to large deals. They involved themselves in customer negotiations which impacted our margins. In fact, there have been instances where they dictated how much margins we should make on deals,” said an IBM partner, who did not want to be named.
