An industry report says Hybrid buses are gaining North American and Asia-pacific markets and have captured almost 40% of the transit bus market in North America. This trend will continue until 2018. Lowered tailpipe pollutant emissions plus an improved fuel economy have jumpstarted the hybrid bus market in North America. CNG continues to be a popular clean option for the US bus sector and is also making headway in other heavy duty markets. Europe is behind North America on hybrid bus deployments, but stimulus funding in the United Kingdom has spurred a 50% increase in the sales of hybrids over the last few years. Germany has an ongoing hybrid bus demonstration program, though results have been mixed. China is forecast to experience the largest hybrid bus sales annually, riding on its sheer bus-market size, despite hybrids capturing a much lower market share there than in the US.
