39 WOMEN FROM TS SAVED BY CID

- DC CORRESPONDENT HYDERABAD, JULY 24

The 39 women rescued from the trafficking racket that was busted in Chandrapur, Maharashtra by the Telangana CID, have been placed in Prajwala and Ujwala homes for rehabilitation.

“The traffickers convinced and lured the girls on the pretext of providing jobs with salaries to the tune of `20,000 and transported them to Chandrapur where they were detained in brothels. We will ensure that severe sections are invoked against the traffickers and we will see that they are punished,” said Satyanarain, Additional DGP CID.

The raid was conducted by six Anti-Human Trafficking Unit teams of Telangana headed by K. Venugopala Rao SP, CID along with few members of the Women and Child Welfare department, four Asha workers and six members from Prajwala, in the early hours of July 22. “Survey on the profiles of the victims and the backgrounds yet to be done, but there have been no complaints of kidnapping. Most of the rescued women are from Karimnagar, Nalagonda, Adilabad and Khammam,” he said.

Speaking about the magnitude of the problem and how Telangana has become both a source, transit and destination for trafficking, he added, “To beef up the operations, we have proposed setting up one AHTU in every district of the state.”
