Jeevan: New Secretariat not needed

- DC CORRESPONDENT

Senior Congress leader T. Jeevan Reddy on Thursday requested Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao to abandon his plan of demolishing the existing Secretariat buildings and constructing a new complex on the lines of vaastu.

In a letter to the CM, the senior legislator said that almost all existing blocks in the Secretariat were constructed after 1980 while the “D’ block was built in 2000 and hence, all these buildings were structurally safe and so far, there was no complaint about their safety.

He said that the CM, who took an oath to uphold the rule of law and rise above religion, caste and creed while administrating the state, was now openly saying that he would demolish the old structures and construct a new complex based on vaastu. Mr Reddy said that this was not in accordance with his oath.

The Congress leader said that with the formation of new districts, there was an urgent need to construct new collectorates and other offices as in many places, the government has taken private buildings on rent to establish offices.

He said that the money earmarked for the new Secretariat complex could well be utilised for office buildings in the new districts.
