CENTRE TO GIVE T-HUB A ‘TBI’ STATUS BOOST

- DC CORRESPONDENT

T-Hub, the country's largest incubator for startups established by the TS government, is all set to get a boost from the Centre.

The Centre is expected to accord ‘technology business incubator’ status to T-Hub soon and grant funds for its expansion.

TBI status is normally given to startups in prestigious institutions like IITs, IIMs etc. With the new status, T-Hub will get `6 crore grant initially and later up to `50 crore from the Centre.

The national committee of the Centre's science and technology department has recommended TBI status to T-Hub. If the recommendation is accepted, T-Hub would become the first non-academic institution in the country to get this status.

The Centre is also in favour of recognising THub as one among the ‘centres of excellence’ and grant funds for future expansion activities.

Normally, the Centre grants funds based on the performance of institutions over a period of five years.
