PRANJALA IN QUARTERS, SATHWIKA BOWS OUT

Hyderabad tennis player Pranjala Yadlapali cruised into the quarterfin­als of the ITF Junior Grade 2 tournament at Nonthambur­i in Bangkok, Thailand by comfortabl­y beating Olivia Gadecki of Australia with a 6-1, 6-1 scoreline.

Pranjala also made it to the doubles quarterfin­als along with partner Zeel Desai. The Indians defeated Monique Barry of New Zealand and Olivia Gadecki 6-4, 6-2.

Sama Sathwika, the other Hyderabad girl in the draw, went down in the pre-quarterfin­als to Kamilla Rakhimova of Russia 1-6, 1-6. Earlier, Sathwika and Mihika Yadav had lost their doubles second round match to Kuan Yi Lee and Mananchaya Sawangkaew, a Taipei-Thailand combinatio­n, 6-7 (6), 6-1, 5-10.

Dedeepa in semifinals of National U-16 tourney

Back home, Telangana girl Y. Sai Dedeepya made it to the semifinals of Under 16 girls National Series tennis tournament in Bengaluru. In the quarters she defeated Smriti Singh of Delhi 16, 6-0, 6-2. Dedeepya will now play Pratibha of Karnataka.
