ISRO HELPS OUT ASI IN GEO-TAGGING

-

The Archaeological Survey of India will put information on heritage sites and monuments on the internet using ISRO’s geo-portal, Bhuvan.

The ISRO site on heritage sites and monuments provides basic information. Clicking on the green triangular icon in Jammu and Kashmir throws up “sculptures at Drass. Kargil, Jammu and Kashmir. Leh Mini circle.”

In Telangana state, clicking on the icon at Hyderabad shows the Golconda fort. The site lists the fort, Charminar, prehistoric sites in Khammam, teh ancient mound in Kondapur, Medak district, Ramappa temple, the 1,000-pillar temple and the Warangal fort.

“Authenticity and validation of the location of the sites and monuments is in progress,” an ASI official said.

ISRO is working on four case studies of Tipu palace, Srirangapatna, Devanhalli and famed Gol Gumbaz in Karnataka to provide all the required information and photographs about the historic places so that it could be replicated for other places.

The Tourism Web GIS through Bhuvan facilitates the users to select the city/tourism places of their interest and find the places of interest, search nearby places along with routing.
