16th case of infant killing in city

-

Hyderabad: The body of a newborn girl was recovered from a drainage at Vikarabad in Ranga Reddy district on Saturday. This is the 16th reported case of killing of infants around Hyderabad in four months. The police at Vikarabad said it is not known whether the baby was thrown in the drain or the flow in the drain brought it from upstream. Child rights activists have been appealing to the government to find ways wherein mothers can live with their infants even in adverse situations. They suggest that anganwadis, government hospitals and Shishugruhas be made accessible to unwed women to leave newborn in safe hands rather than dumping them in drains.
