A 38-year-old NRI techie who came home to perform the cremation rituals (Pinda

Illendula Anil Kumar was performing the ceremony along with his elder brother Pavan Kumar when both got caught in the waters. Pavan was rescued, but Anil drowned. Illendula Anil Kumar, hailing from Kattangur in Nalgonda district went to South Africa six years ago. He was working as a software engineer with African Bank in Johannesburg.

A year ago, his father Illendula Venkateshwarlu died. To perform rituals, he came home a month ago along with his wife and children. On Friday morning, he and his family went to Wadapally to perform the rituals. This is the location where Musi joins Krishna. The place is famous for these rituals and people enter the river only in boats due to the heavy flow. While his family took a boat, Anil and his brother Pavan entered on foot and started walking into the waters thinking the depth was less.

Anil was walking ahead and Pavan followed him. After walking for a few meters, Anil started sinking. Pavan saw this and tried to walk back but he also sank. Boatmen jumped into the water and rescued Pavan but Anil had already drowned. Later, with the help of swimmers and other boat operators, police recovered Anil's body from the river.

Police registered a suspicious death case and handed over the body to his family after postmortem. Anil is survived by his wife and two sons aged five and three.
