80% of Charminar project gets done

- DC CORRESPONDENT

THOUGH THE PROJECT is in progress, it is unlikely to be completed soon as there are many issues pending resolution, one of which is the dismantling of 29 properties, including religious places, a matter which is currently in court.

Nearly 80 per cent of the task of laying tiles near the Charminar as part of the pending pedestrianisation project has finally been completed. The upcoming Global Entrepreneurship Summit seems to have gotten things moving.

The project was meant to pedestrianise the precincts within a radius of 220 metres from the Charminar by diverting vehicular traffic through two ring roads — the Inner Ring Road (IRR) and the Outer Ring Road ( ORR).

Reporters of this paper have looked into the state of completion of works and found that the granite pavement from the Charminar to Gulzar House, and from the Charminar to Sardar Mahal have been completed. The pavements at Laad Bazar Road and Sardar Mahal have also been completed, and the streetscaping of roads from Madina to Pathergati has been completed.

Meanwhile, the restoration of Charkaman and the repair of the clock towers at Mahbub Chowk and Murgi Chowk remain incomplete.

Though the project is in progress, it is unlikely to be completed soon as there are many issues pending resolution, one of which is the dismantling of 29 properties, including religious places, a matter which is currently in court.

The main part of the project, the construction of the IRR and ORR, is also pending completion. 4.8 km of the entire 5.4 km of the ORR has been completed, and 2.25 km of the entire 2.3 km of the IRR has been completed.
