KCR’S 3RD FRONT CALL HAS SUPPORT OF MAMTA

-

The Telangana Rashtra Samithi chief (TRS) K. Chandrasekhar Rao on March 3, called for a ‘third front’ comprising of non-Congress and non-BJP parties before the 2019 elections.

The 64-year Chief Minister of Telangana said, “There is a serious need to bring change in national politics. Seventy years have passed since Independence and out of those 70 years, 64 years were ruled by either BJP or Congress. Even after 70 years, people are suffering and they don’t even have water to drink.” What KCR has got right is his timing; just as when the saffron electoral wave swept across the north-east states.

After his third front announcement, he found instant support from the Trinamool Congress chief and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha chief Hemant Soren. But Soren soon changed his mind and said that AICC president Rahul Gandhi has given word that the elections in the state will be fought under his leadership.

Former Congress party president, Sonia Gandhi immediately reached out to opposition leaders and invited them for a meeting, minus the TRS. Sharad Pawar too called on regional party leaders.

Critics on the other hand infer a larger political strateg y behind KCR’s third-front. That of Modi-Shah’s hand, given the fact that he supported Modi all these years.

What KCR seems to be batting for, is a new form of cooperative federalism which envisages limited powers to the Centre and maximum powers to the states. Which he hopes he will succeed

“Ham aap se ekmat hai. Aap ke saath rahenge (I am in agreement with you. I will work with you).” — MS MAMATA BANERJEE, West Bengal Chief Minister
