The big­gies of Bol­ly­wood have been ac­cused of a va­ri­ety of crimes, rang­ing from rape – in some cases of mi­nors – to ex­ploita­tion, as­sault, abuse, in­tim­i­da­tion and threats. De­spite al­le­ga­tions, all these men have gone on to en­joy great suc­cess and have been lauded with awards. SAL­MAN KHAN Aish­warya Rai Bachchan in 2002, spoke about the emo­tional and phys­i­cal abuse she ex­pe­ri­enced dur­ing her re­la­tion­ship with him. OM PURI In 2013, Om Puri’s wife, Nan­dita Puri, re­vealed in her biog­ra­phy that he had raped their 14-year-old house­keeper. SUB­HASH GHAI In the early 1990s, ac­tress Man­isha Koirala’s mother ac­cused Ghai of com­ing on to her daugh­ter dur­ing the shoot of the 1991 hit, Sauda­gar. Koirala never worked with Ghai again.

In 2010, au­thor Rina Golan re­vealed sim­i­lar ad­vances by Ghai in her mem­oir. MADHUR BHANDARKAR Model-turned-ac­tress Preeti Jain ac­cused Bhandarkar, a Na­tional film award-win­ning direc­tor, of rap­ing her 16 times be­tween 1999 and 2004, while promis­ing to marry and cast her in roles, in a com­plaint filed in 2004. Since then, Bhandarkar has made more than 10 films. RA­JESH KHANNA Khanna’s live-in part­ner, Anita Ad­vani, ac­cused him of sex­ual as­sault when she was a 13-yr-old. VARUN GROVER Award-win­ning lyri­cist and writer was called out by a for­mer stu­dent of BHU for mis­be­hav­ing with her in 2001. ADITI MITTAL Stand-up come­di­enne Ka­neez Surka ac­cused comic Aditi Mittal of force­fully kiss­ing and putting her ‘tongue in my mouth’ while she was host­ing a show. ADITYA PANCHOLI Kan­gana Ra­naut, faced ridicule for speak­ing about be­ing phys­i­cally abused as a mi­nor, when she was new in the in­dus­try.

For­mer ac­tress Pooja Bedi ac­cused Pancholi of rap­ing her 15-year-old do­mes­tic worker. ALOK NATH Vinta Nanda, a vet­eran writer-pro­ducer of the 1990s’ show ‘Tara’ has ac­cused the ac­tor of sex­u­ally vi­o­lat­ing her two decades ago.
