TYRE POLLUTION

Hats off to Deccan Chronicle for highlighting that used tyres are being dumped into India from UK, USA and western countries and they are being burnt here to extract oil (Hyderabad imports toxic pollution in form of tyres, DC, Feb. 8). When tyres are burnt harmful fumes are released which are hazardous to public health. The Centre and state governments, on one hand preach greenery and on the other allow people to pollute the environment. The Pollution Control Board must take necessary steps to ensure that all tyre burning units are closed and owners encouraged to take up alternative businesses.
