HC ORDERS PARITY IN PAY OF MEDICAL EMPLOYEES

- DC CORRESPONDENT

Justice Abhinand Kumar Shavili of Telangana High Court on Wednesday directed the State Medical and Health Department, Director of Insurance Medical Services, and Commissioner of Telangana Vaidya Vidhana Parishad to pay minimum time scales on par with regular employees to outsourced employees working in various government hospitals of the state, apart from ESI dispensaries.

The judge was dealing with a petition filed by 78 outsourced employees of Medical Department, including attenders, ambulance drivers, sweepers, and other Class IV employees working at government hospitals in Mahabubnagar, Nirmal, and ESI dispensaries in Hyderabad. The petitioners had accused the department of violating the principle of equal pay for equal work, as stipulated under a judgement of the Supreme Court. They pointed out that they were getting less than quarter the salary of regular last grade employees, though their responsibilities were equivalent to regular employees of their cadre.
