Sex on Chowpatty (COCKTAIL)
Shatbhi Basu was working at J49, a lounge bar on Juhu Beach, the professional mixologist wanted to give a ‘Bambaiya’ twist to the cocktail ‘Sex on the Beach’. “I thought it appropriate to style a twisted version of the original in honour of the countless trysts on our famed beach,” says Basu who was urged by some students to give the same honour to the beach in South Mumbai and thus ‘Sex on Chowpatty’ was created. While both the ‘inspired’ drinks only used the imagery of the original cocktail rather than using any Mumbai specific ingredient, local ingredients have managed to find a place in Basu’s other creations. Mumbai Iced Tea, made in the style of Long Island Iced Tea, has sugarcane juice for cola while Madh Island Iced Tea has Malibu (for the coconut trees on the beach) in place of triple sec/Cointreau.
