Ex­ter­nal af­fairs min­istry read­ies re­ply to Vi­jay Mallya’s de­fence in Lon­don court

duced be­fore the West­min­ster Mag­is­trates’ Court in Lon­don in April for an ex­tra­di­tion hear­ing, and was granted con­di­tional bail.

In a case re­view held on July 6, 2017, the ten­ta­tive date for ex­tra­di­tion hear­ing was fixed as De­cem­ber 4. Mallya’s bail was ex­tended un­til this time.

Sub­mit­ting case de­tails, MEA spokesper­son Raveesh Ku­mar on Thurs­day said In­dian au­thor­i­ties were pre­par­ing a re­sponse to the af­fi­davit filed by Mallya’s lawyers to pre­vent his ex­tra­di­tion.

“Another case man­age­ment re­view hear­ing was held on Septem­ber 14, 2017 in which the de­fence’s ev­i­dence was served to UK Crown Pros­e­cu­tion Ser­vice and a re­sponse ws sought from the In­dian side. In­dian au­thor­i­ties need to send a re­ply to the de­fence ev­i­dence be­fore Novem­ber 3, 2017,” he said.

In the hear­ing on Oc­to­ber 4, UK Crown Pros­e­cu­tion Ser­vice filed sup­ple­men­tal af­fi­davit in con­nec­tion with money laun­der­ing charges. Mallya was re-ar­rested, and then granted bail till De­cem­ber 4, when the ex­tra­di­tion hear­ing is sched­uled to com­mence.
