Former BCCI official Sridhar dies aged 51
and initially was given charge of domestic cricket. He came to the forefront only after Srinivasan was removed by the Supreme Court during the IPL spot-fixing case.
Sridhar played a prominent role in BCCI’s various committees but his most challenging assignment was as the tournament director of the 2016 World T20 in India.
Sridhar’s big assignment, which made him popular face amongst cricket fans in India, was the controversial “monkeygate” scandal during India’s tour of Australia in 200708. Being media manager, Sridhar was praised for the manner in which he handled tough situations. BCCI had threatened to boycott the tour following Harbhajan Singh’s ban after being found guilty of making a racist comments against Andrew Symonds.
But the HCA corruption charges put him under tremendous pressure following his exit from BCCI.
