Besides, a decision was also taken that in the upcoming meetings of the GST Councils, Finance Ministers of Congress-ruled states will espouse the “pain and sufferings of MSMEs, shopkeepers, traders, and common men”.

“I don’t know what is there to celebrate,” Rahul said, adding that while the economy was able to withstand the “torpedo” of note ban, it could not withstand the one of GST. Rahul’s meeting was also attended by former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, former Finance Minister P Chidambaram, and Jairam Ramesh.

Since Congress has in the past been calling GST its “own baby”, the meeting highlighted “loopholes” in GST’s implementation without abruptly disowning the key economic reform measure.
