Two accidents in city leaves five youth dead
A man who was heading home to celebrate his 24th birthday, and his friend, died after their scooter was hit by a speeding truck in Samaypur Badli area on Wednesday night.
Police said, the 24-year-old man was out with his friend to celebrate his birthday at midnight. They died when their scooter was hit by a speeding truck near Libaspur village in outer Delhi.
The two victims, identified as Mohit Yadav (24) and Jatin Pawar (23) were native of Libaspur village.
A case under section 279 (rash driving) and 304A (death due to negligence) of the IPC has been registered against the truck driver who fled after hitting the two wheeler, said a senior police officer.
At the time of accident, they were on the by-pass road, coming from Swaroop Nagar towards Libaspur, when a truck that was coming from behind suddenly inched closer to avoid a pothole. The driver of the motorcycle panicked and crashed into the truck, police said. The truck fled the spot and is still missing, they said.
While Yadav died on spot, Pawar managed to stop a PCR van on the highway, but died on his way to the hospital.
In another fatal accident, two pillion riders were killed and one was injured when their two wheeler met with an accident on a flyover near Punjabi Bagh.
The deceased, all residents of Shakur Basti were riding a motorcycle when they lost balance. The trio suffered head injuries as they were not wearing helmets.
The victims were identified as Vikas (18), Rohit (30), and Vickey (35). While Vickey died on the spot, Vikas succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
Although an initial probe has revealed that the accident happened due to negligence while driving, CCTV footage from the area is also being analysed to check if any other vehicle was involved in the accident.
