IGIA to shut a run­way for main­te­nance

Congestion and de­lays can be ex­pected from Novem­ber 7 to 10 at the Indira Gandhi In­ter­na­tional air­port (IGIA) as one of its run­ways will be un­der main­te­nance for a pe­riod of three days, next month. The air­port op­er­a­tor, how­ever, said that ar­range­ments have been made in ad­vance to en­sure timely and smooth flight op­er­a­tions.

The Delhi In­ter­na­tional Air­port Lim­ited (DIAL) said that run­way 11-29 will re­main closed for main­te­nance, ad­ding, that the sched­uled time was cho­sen af­ter a care­ful eval­u­a­tion by the air­port op­er­a­tor, in close con­sul­ta­tion with the Air­ports Au­thor­ity of In­dia (AAI) and the air­lines.

“Given the on­set of fog sea­son, the time was jointly agreed from the per­spec­tive of safety and oper­a­tional re­li­a­bil­ity. De­tailed safety assess­ment and other rel­e­vant doc­u­ments were shared with the In­dian avi­a­tion safety reg­u­la­tor; Di­rec­torate Gen­eral of Civil Avi­a­tion (DGCA). Af­ter the due ap­proval from the DGCA, the global avi­a­tion com­mu­nity was in­formed by is­su­ing Note for Air­men (NOTAM) well in ad­vance,” the air­port op­er­a­tor said.

The other two run­ways 10-28 and 09-27 - will ac­com­mo­date the load of run­way 11-29, DIAL in­formed. Dur­ing the main­te­nance, the air­field ca­pac­ity will also be low­ered to 45 Air Traf­fic Move­ments (ATM) per hour. The Air­port op­er­a­tor has re­vised the slot al­lo­ca­tions in con­sul­ta­tion with all the air­lines, it said.
