BTech student kills self at Noida hostel
A 22-year-old B Tech student allegedly committed suicide in his hostel room in Noida, Sector 57, on Sunday night. According to police, the deceased has been identified as Rupanshu Srivastav, a second-year student at the Jagadguru Sri Shivarathreeshwara Academy of Technical Education, Sector 62.
Srivastav was found hanging by the ceiling fan in his hostel room. Police did not recover any suicide note from the spot. “We got a call from the hostel in-charge. We reached the hostel and broke down his room’s door to find him hanging by the fan. The body has been sent for postmortem,” said Anil Pratap Singh, Station House Officer, Sector 58 police station.
According to Srivastav’s friends in the hostel, he did not appear for his exam on October 28. “We had an exam on Saturday but he did not come. His roommate left to go home after the exam, and he was alone after that,” Vipin, a friend, said. He added that he last saw Srivastav on the night of October 28, in the dining room.
“He had dinner with us, after which he went to his room. He didn’t come out the entire day on Sunday. I wanted something from his room, so I knocked on the door but he did not respond for a long time. I peeped from the window and saw him hanging by the fan. Then I immediately raised an alarm,” Vipin said.
Vijay Srivastav, the deceased’s father, said: “He didn’t have many friends and was generally silent. He never shared anything with us. The news has shocked us. He had come home for Diwali and seemed happy. But, he had not been speaking to us properly for the last two days. We do not know what led him to take this extreme step.”
According to police, Srivastav hailed from Raebareli. The family has refused to file any complaint in the case and have taken the body to their hometown.
