IIT-K asked to kick 4 ‘casteist’ teachers out
Lucknow: The National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) has directed the IIT Kanpur management to suspend four of its professors found guilty of passing casteist remarks against a Dalit faculty member and lodge an FIR against them.
Expressing its displeasure over the management’s inaction on the issue, the commission also directed institute director Prof Manindra Agarwal to submit an action taken report by May 1.
In April, Agarwal, along with senior faculty members, had appeared before the NCSC to present an inquiry report pertaining to harassment allegations raised by assistant professor Dr Subramanium Sundrela of the Aerospace Department.
Earlier, Agarwal had constituted a three-member committee to probe into Sundrela’s allegations. The committee found all the four guilty of harassment. However, the IIT-K Board suggested a compromise. Sundrela turned down the offer and approached NCSC.
