Week- long feast for film buffs as Ja­gran fes­ti­val comes to city

The 7th edi­tion of Ja­gran Film Fes­ti­val will travel to Mumbai, where it will open with highly ac­claimed “Road To Is­tan­bul” on Septem­ber 26, and also fea­ture an ar­ray of pop­u­lar In­dian movies of re­cent past, pro­vid­ing a vis­ual treat to cin­ema afi­ciona­dos.

The fes­ti­val, af­ter trav­el­ling to sev­eral In­dian cities, will con­clude in the Mumbai.

“Road To Is­tan­bul”, an Al­ge­rian film, is a 92- minute movie that talks about the is­sue of young Euro­peans con­vert­ing to Is­lam and tak­ing up the Ji­hadi cause. It will be screened at a theatre in sub­ur­ban And­heri. “We are really ex­cited to start the film fes­ti­val in Mumbai with one of the most crit­i­cally- ac­claimed and ap­pre­ci­ated movies of the re­cent times, ‘ Road to Is­tan­bul’,” a spokesper­son of the film fes­ti­val said in a state­ment.

Pro­duced by John Bre­hat in as­so­ci­a­tion with 3B Pro­duc­tions, Tas­sili Films, Arte France and Scope Pic­tures and di­rected by Rachid Bouchareb, the film stars Astrid Whet­tnall, Pauline Burlet, Pa­tri­cia Ide and Abel Jafri.

“Road To Is­tan­bul” has been screened at var­i­ous in­ter­na­tional film fes­ti­vals this year, in­clud­ing Ber­lin and Eurasia, among oth­ers.

The 7th edi­tion of Ja­gran Film Fes­ti­val started from New Delhi on July 1 and went to sev­eral cities, in­clud­ing Luc­know and Kan­pur.

Some of the im­por­tant sec­tions of the fes­ti­val are world panorama, In­dian show­case, ja­gran shorts, stars on the hori­zon, coun­try fo­cus, trib­utes and homages among oth­ers.

The In­dian show­case in­cludes pop­u­lar films like Air­lift, Neerja, Sar­b­jit, Tal­var, Nat­sam­rat, Ali­garh, Sairat and Mithila Makhaan.

The week- long ex­trav­a­ganza will come to an end on Oc­to­ber 2 with a gala clos­ing cer­e­mony.
