Lift tech­ni­cian dies in mishap at Lodha’s The Park

A lift tech­ni­cian died while do­ing main­te­nance work of a lift at Lodha’s The Park project in Lower Parel on Fri­day. The de­ceased Dilip Rai died af­ter the lift’s coun­ter­weight hit his back, fol­low­ing which he fell on the ground and suc­cumbed to his in­juries.

As per pri­mary in­ves­ti­ga­tion of the NM Joshi Marg Po­lice sta­tion, Rai was work­ing at the un­der-con­struc­tion site when the mishap hap­pened. The po­lice al­lege that

Rai died due to his col­league Mano­jku­mar Singh’s neg­li­gence. Po­lice said the lift sud­denly started and the coun­ter­weight hit Rai’s back. “We have ar­rested the neg­li­gent per­son (Singh) and have booked him un­der sec­tion 304

A of the In­dian Pe­nal Code for caus­ing death due to neg­li­gence,” said a po­lice of­fi­cer.

Mean­while, the Lodha Group is­sued an of­fi­cial state­ment stat­ing that the work is be­ing car­ried out by a lead­ing con­trac­tor. “Our thoughts are with the fam­ily of the de­ceased. Fi­nan­cial sup­port will be pro­vided to the fam­ily. We will con­duct a de­tailed in­quiry in the mat­ter against the par­ties car­ry­ing out the con­struc­tion and direct them to take nec­es­sary steps to pre­vent an­other such ac­ci­dent.”
