Crime Branch sleuths ar­rest five for dup­ing bank with bo­gus docs

Mum­bai Crime Branch sleuths have busted a gang and have ar­rested five peo­ple al­legedly in­stru­men­tal in procur­ing loan from a bank by sub­mit­ting bo­gus and fake doc­u­ments.

Those ar­rested were iden­ti­fied as - Romi Ra­jan Kapoor alias Koushik Kumar Kaus­tubh Nath, 41, Saket Ashok Dik­shit, 34, Vishal Tarkeswar Ti­wari, 41, Gig­nesh Ji­ten­dra Ra­jani, 31, and Vikas Bhasker Don­gare, 34.

The Kan­di­vali Unit of Crime Branch had re­ceived spe­cific in­for­ma­tion that a gang in­stru­men­tal in sub­mit­ting fake doc­u­ments and procur­ing loan from banks is ac­tive in the city.

“We first picked up Romi Kapoor and from his pos­ses­sion we found two PAN Cards, Aad­har Cards and Driv­ing Li­censes with dif­fer­ent names but hav­ing his pho­tographs. Dur­ing ques­tion­ing he re­vealed that he had kept those ID cards to seek loan from bank. We then got a case of cheat­ing, forgery and crim­i­nal con­spir­acy reg­is­tered in the mat­ter at Oshi­wara Po­lice Sta­tion and took over the in­ves­ti­ga­tions of the case,” said po­lice in­spec­tor Chi­maji Aa­dav.

He added, Kapoor dur­ing the ques­tion­ing also re­vealed that two other mem­bers of the gang were bank agents and they helped in get­ting fake doc­u­ments made so that

the process of se­cur­ing loan from the banks be­comes easy.

“Kapoor had re­cently se­cured three loans of Rs 59 lakh, Rs 29 lakh and Rs 21 lakh from a bank by sub­mit­ting fake doc­u­ments and duped the bank. In­ves­ti­ga­tion has fur­ther re­vealed that Kapoor has com­mit­ted a fraud worth crores of ru­pees in the city of Kolkata as well. With Kapoor as our bait, we man­aged to ar­rest the re­main­ing mem­bers of the gang in due course. The ar­rested peo­ple will be in Crime Branch cus­tody un­til Oc­to­ber 3,” Aa­dav fur­ther added.
