Ephemeral Urbanism: Cities in Constant Flux

Venue: Architecture Biennale, Venice Year: 2016

Domus - - EXHIBITION | PHOTO ESSAY -

Curated by Rahul Mehrotra and Felipe Vera, the exhibition primarily comprised of research on varying types of temporary landscapes of the Kumbh Mela, presented using different forms of media. It provided meaningful insights regarding what cities, and urban planners, can learn from temporary settlements that involve rapid assembly, movement, and dis-assembly. This research, with its second stage of exploration, not only drastically alters the way we would look at the urban and the nature of cities, and their future, but also asks for newer models of research and understanding, developing a critique even of recent models, which, until a few years ago, were celebrated or considered as the answer to the problems at hand
