SUS­TAIN­ABLE UR­BAN WA­TER MAN­AGE­MENT RAIN­WA­TER HAR­VEST­ING AND DE­CEN­TRALISED WASTE­WATER TREAT­MENT

The in­crease in ur­ban­i­sa­tion has led to in­crease in the fresh wa­ter de­mand along with waste­water gen­er­a­tion. The cur­rent wa­ter cri­sis is at­trib­uted to mis­man­age­ment of wa­ter re­sources and em­pha­sis on the en­ergy as well as re­source in­ten­sive cen­tral­ized ur­ban wa­ter man­age­ment. Need is, for the prac­ti­tion­ers and user com­mu­ni­ties, to im­ple­ment sus­tain­able and af­ford­able de­cen­tralised wa­ter man­age­ment prac­tices. This short term five day course will fo­cus on — de­sign­ing rain­wa­ter har­vest­ing ( RWH) and de­cen­tralised waste­water treat­ment sys­tems (DWWT) in­clud­ing lo­cal re­use. Reg­is­tra­tion to this pop­u­lar course is on first come first ba­sis.

PRO­GRAM DE­SIGN

The two train­ing pro­grammes will in­clude lec­tures, in­ter­ac­tive ses­sions with leading ex­perts/prac­ti­tion­ers, pre­sen­ta­tion on case stud­ies, do it yourself - group ex­er­cises and one day field visit to suc­cess­fully im­ple­mented RWH and DWWT sys­tems in and around Delhi with an op­por­tu­nity to in­ter­act with real im­ple­menters and users. Ur­ban Rain­wa­ter Har­vest­ing Two day pro­gramme will fo­cus on un­der­stand­ing the po­ten­tial of wa­ter aug­men­ta­tion at build­ing and/or neigh­bour­hood scale. The train­ing will im­part skills on plan­ning and de­sign­ing both recharge and stor­age struc­tures, techno-eco­nomic fea­si­bil­ity, oper­a­tion and main­te­nance etc. De­cen­tralised Waste­water Treat­ment Two day pro­gramme will fo­cus on un­der­stand­ing po­ten­tial of sus­tain­able and af­ford­able de­cen­tralised waste­water treat­ment (DWWT) sys­tems for lo­cal re­use. The train­ing will pro­vide hands on ex­pe­ri­ence in plan­ning, de­sign­ing, techno-eco­nomic fea­si­bil­ity, oper­a­tion and main­te­nance of DWWTS etc.

Prac­ti­tion­ers ( en­gi­neers / ar­chi­tects / plan­ners / rep­re­sen­ta­tives of non-gov­ern­men­tal or­ga­ni­za­tion and govern­ment of­fi­cials), aca­demi­cians, con­sul­tants, stu­dents, re­searchers.
