Paan masala causes anaemia

Down to Earth - - THE FORTNIGHT -

RESEARCHERS AT the clinical hemato-oncology department of King George's Medical University, Lucknow, have found that consuming paanmasala leads to a drop in one's folic acid level, which is one of the main causes of anaemia. This starts affecting the health much before cancerous fibroids appear in oral cavities. Chemicals in paan masala have an adverse impact on the body's mechanism to absorb iron and folic acid and this leads to anaemia. The find could also change the popular belief that anaemia affects mainly women.
