As mentioned in the story, CSE tested raw chicken meat samples available in NCR. CSE's study points to large-scale, non-therapeutic antibiotic use in the Indian poultry industry which could be contributing to increasing reservoirs of resistant bacteria that can get transmitted to humans through the environment, direct contact and food. The issue is beyond antibiotic residue in chicken and those who eat the meat. We need to curb the practice of indiscriminate use of antibiotics in the first place. Current Indian regulations are largely inadequate to address the issue of antibiotic resistance.
