What's in your food?
This is with reference to the editorial "Chicken comes home to roost" (August 16-31, 2014). The issue of antibiotics in poultry is largely ignored in this country. There are more than 70 labs of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India in various states. Why are these not monitoring the use of chemicals in animals? Do these laboratories not have enough personnel or equipment? The government should either ensure regular monitoring of animal farms to check the use of antibiotics or promote organic farming.
