Government nod to AYUSH mission
THE UNION Cabinet has approved a National AYUSH Mission to revive the country's traditional systems of medicine. AYUSH stands for ayurveda, yoga and naturopathy, unani, siddha and homoeopathy. The mission aims to provide healthcare services to vulnerable and far-flung areas of the country by allocating more resources, promoting AYUSH education systems, increasing the number of AYUSH hospitals and dispensaries, and ensuring availability of raw material for drugs. The announcement comes at a time when 11 Southeast Asian countries are looking at ways to integrate traditional medicines into national healthcare systems for ensuring universal health coverage.
