Gov­ern­ment nod to AYUSH mis­sion

THE UNION Cab­i­net has ap­proved a Na­tional AYUSH Mis­sion to re­vive the coun­try's tra­di­tional sys­tems of medicine. AYUSH stands for ayurveda, yoga and natur­opa­thy, unani, sid­dha and ho­moeopa­thy. The mis­sion aims to pro­vide health­care ser­vices to vul­ner­a­ble and far-flung ar­eas of the coun­try by al­lo­cat­ing more re­sources, pro­mot­ing AYUSH ed­u­ca­tion sys­tems, in­creas­ing the num­ber of AYUSH hos­pi­tals and dis­pen­saries, and en­sur­ing avail­abil­ity of raw ma­te­rial for drugs. The an­nounce­ment comes at a time when 11 South­east Asian coun­tries are look­ing at ways to in­te­grate tra­di­tional medicines into na­tional health­care sys­tems for en­sur­ing univer­sal health cov­er­age.
