For­est of­fi­cials in the Philip­pines claim to have bro­ken an In­dian record of plant­ing max­i­mum num­ber of trees in a day. The coun­try wit­nessed plant­ing of 3.2 mil­lion seedlings in an hour re­cently. The In­dian record, set on Au­gust 15, 2011, was 1.9 mil­lion. The drive in the Philip­pines was un­der a na­tional foresta­tion pro­gramme ini­ti­ated by the coun­try's pres­i­dent. Some 160,000 peo­ple, in­clud­ing gov­ern­ment em­ploy­ees and stu­dents, took part in the drive that also aimed at get­ting a men­tion in the Guin­ness World Records.
