A date with Mars

Down to Earth - - LETTERS -

With Mangalyaan entering the Martian orbit successfully in its maiden attempt, India has not only created history but also joined the elite club of nations to reach the red planet ("Test drive to Mars", November 16-30, 2013). It is a matter of pride that India stands at par with the US and Russia in the interplanetary mission. One must hail the untiring efforts of the scientists and engineers at the Indian Space Research Organisation who have been taking care of the most minute details of the Mars Orbiter Mission since it was launched in November last year. Even more surprising is the economical cost at which the complex mission was developed compared to international standards.
