Boards fail to check Ganga pollution
THE SUPREME Court has slammed the Centre and state pollution control boards for not taking action against industries that are polluting the Ganga. "Yours is a story of complete failure, frustration and disaster," the apex court told the boards. It has asked the National Green Tribunal to monitor all polluting industrial units on the banks of the Ganga. Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar defended the Central Pollution Control Board, citing its notices to 764 polluting industries to install sensors at effluent discharge points by March 31 next year.
