Will the BJP government's fund allocation of ` 20,000 crore for the clean Ganga programme save the dying river?
Simply allocating money is of no use. We can keep cleaning the river, but as long as plastic is not banned, it will continue to pollute the environment.
SAMIR PATIL The only thing that matters to our ministers is how much money the government is releasing. No one is taking steps to stop industries from dumping their waste into the rivers. Sadly, in our country, might is always right.
MANISH JOSHI The work to clean the Ganga should be monitored by the Prime Minister's Office (PMO). Industries should be penalised for dumping plastic, metals and other waste in the entire Ganga basin. PMO should ensure that funds are not misused.
RAVINDRA GANDHE There must be an audit to take stock of every crore spent. Only then will the public know how much money was used to actually clean the river and how much went into the pockets of contractors.
