Maggi in consumer court
I N D I A' S A P E X consumer grievance redressal commission, the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC) has admitted the complaint of the Union Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution against food major Nestle India. The ministry has sought class action against the company for adopting unfair and deceptive trade practices, and misleading advertisements to sell Maggi noodles. It has also sought 640 crore in damages from Nestle India. This is the firstever class action complaint filed by the government on behalf of consumers. Recently, Nestle India had got a significant respite, when the Bombay High Court lifted the ban on the sale of nine instant noodle brands.
