Food can be addictive

Down to Earth - - SCIENCE -

C R AV I N G F O R food may be hard-wired into the brain of obese people. To understand the brain reward systems, researchers gave buffet-style food to obese and normal-weight persons and were then shown photographs of food to stimulate craving. Obese people saw a greater stimulation in the reward centres of the brain associated with food than their normal-weight counterparts. The study provides potential biomarkers which can be used to manage obesity. European College of Neuropsychopharmacology, August 30
